Mr Paul is an enthusiast of using digital technology to improve business and tax administration, and filed the UK’s first electronic self-assessment tax return in 1997.
Paul Aplin OBE, Past President of ICAEW, is a non-executive director of three companies, a member of the HMRC Admin Burdens Advisory Board and the OTS Board, Tax Faculty board, Tax Faculty board, CIOT council, CFE Tax Technology Committee, Program Advisor on personal taxation and a permanent consultant on taxation and technology.
Specialties: Tax writer and commentator (policy, administration and digitalization), experienced NED, member of the audit and risk committee.

Mr Paul received a lifetime achievement award at the Taxation Awards 2021.

In November 2023, at the Luca Awards in London, Mr. Paul received another recognition from the international community: Certificate Companion ICB, Member of the International Advisory Board of ICB Global.
