“ Welcome to all conference participants in Kyiv, Ukraine.
It is a pleasure to join you today.
Although I am on your screens rather than on stage, the connection I feel with this community is as strong as ever.
Indeed, it is only fitting that we have come together in this way. As bookkeepers and financial managers in 2026, the “digital bridge” is where we live.
Whether we are across the street or halfway around the world, we are united by a common mission that began 30 years ago.
When we founded ICB in 1996, we wanted to create a grand home for the profession.
Today, that home has 150,000 windows, offering views of over 160 countries around the world.
• The role of the ICB and the CRO.
I am often asked what the role of the ICB is in a world dominated by artificial intelligence and automation.
My answer is simple: we provide the confidence that machines cannot.
You’ve heard me call you “trusted advisors” for years. But today I want to give you a new title for a new era.
In this volatile global economy, you are the Chief Reliability Officers of the CRO‘s business.
Governments and banks can create all the software they want, but without a certified public bookkeepers to verify the integrity of the data, it’s just noise.
You are the filter. You are the ones who transform raw data into the “financial truth” that supports the stability of the global economy.
• Resilience Greetings: ICB & ICFM Ukraine and the entire Ukrainian community.
Speaking of reliability, I want to highlight a group of members who are redefining the word “resilience” every day.
I’m talking about our colleagues and friends in Ukraine.
I know many of you are watching us today. Despite the challenges of the past few years, the Ukrainian bookkeeping community remains an inspiration to the entire ICB family. You didn’t just keep the books and manage the finances, you supported the economic heart of your country in the most challenging circumstances imaginable.
To our Ukrainian members: your courage is matched only by your professionalism.
We are proud to stand with you.
• Challenges, Risks and the Shield of Certification.
Being a “Chief Integrity Officer” these days comes with risks. We operate in an environment of complex cyber threats and regulatory changes such as Making Tax Digital.
That’s why certification is your shield.
In an unregulated world, the ICB crest is the only thing that separates a professional from someone with an app.
It is your “license to practice”.
It tells your clients that you are supervised, professionally ethical, have modern skills, innovations, standards and are relevant.
Never underestimate the value of MICB or FICB and AICFM or FICFM after your name, it is the gold standard of trust.
Our profession is undergoing an intense transformation.
• Regulatory treadmill: We see constant updates to international standards and a barrage of new reporting requirements. Compliance is no longer a “once a year” event, it’s a daily expectation.
• AI’s double-edged sword: Automation is changing the way we work, but with new tools come new dangers. We are on the front lines of data breaches, cyberthreats, and financial information misuse. AI can process documents, but it can’t apply the ethical judgment needed to detect fraud.
• Skills revolution: To survive today, technical bookkeeping knowledge is just the beginning. Now you must combine that with digital prowess and analytical thinking.
• The weight of integrity: Above all, our greatest responsibility is to uphold trust. In the age of “fake news” and deepfakes, your signature on the dial accounts, documents – a promise of integrity that the world desperately needs.
• The Road to London and the Grand Finish:
This brings me to our big day.
In November, ICB Global celebrates 30 years.
I may be online today, but I look forward to seeing you all in person in London this November.
We have a big week planned, starting on 16th November:
• The Bookkeepers Summit: we take over The Queen Elizabeth II Centre London QEII in Westminster.
• Global Bookkeeping Week: where we show the world what Bookkeepers Mean Business.
• The LUCA Awards: our grand finale.
The prestigious Luca Pachouli statuette in the global financial world.

After 30 years of growing the profession together, there is no better place to celebrate. Let’s make this November a memorable one for the profession. I look forward to raising a glass with you everyone for what is undoubtedly the OSCAR of bookkeeping in the financial world at the international level ❗️

Thank you, and see you in London❗️”

Special attention was paid to the risks and opportunities of AI. Participants discussed not just automation, but ethical aspects and data security when implementing algorithms in financial monitoring.
